As a car accident attorney in Sacramento, I’ve seen my share of collisions that end with damage to the vehicles involved. In some accidents, though, the damage caused can extend far beyond the automobiles involved in the wreck.
That was the case this morning, as wrecks occurred on both the East Coast and the West Coast in which vehicles crashed into power poles, leaving some citizens in the dark.
The first crash hit close to home. Workers scrambled to fix downed power lines in West Sacramento early this morning after a driver lost control of his vehicle while heading south on River Road at the curve on Gregory Avenue. Interestingly, the car crashed into a power pole on one side of the street before cutting across the lanes and smashing into a pole on the opposite side. Officers suspect that the driver may have accidentally hit the gas pedal after the first crash. Alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the crash. No outages have been reported.
The same cannot be said for an accident which occurred in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where a Waste Management truck crashed into a power pole on Isom Street. The crash caused power lines and poles to be knocked down along Pine Street. The nearby area lost power, as did numerous traffic lights. Generators had to be brought in to power the traffic signals, and drivers were asked to avoid the area to let officers clear the scene, which had also witnessed a separate crash earlier in the day.
These incidents show how a person can be affected by an accident and not even be near the scene of the crash. As a Sacramento car accident attorney, I know that we must be careful driving even when roads are mostly empty. There are still obstacles out there, and as illustrated by the stories above, hitting such obstacles can have long-lasting, unforeseen consequences.
